Professor Alexander Chudnovsky (President of Advisory Board)
defended his PhD Thesis PH.D -1968 “Mathematical Theory of Elasticity of Elastomer”, Advisor – Professor S. N. Numerov, head of applied math dep., Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute. He also defended his Dr. of Sciences “Thermodynamics and Statistical Investigation of Fracture of Solids” USSR thesis,” 1971 Siberian Branch of the Academy of Science. Self-advisor, independent work. Has over four decades of teaching experience: University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) department of Civil Engineering. Case Western Reserve University Departments of Civil Engineering and Macromolecular Science.

Professor Haris Jasarevic (President)
defended his PhD Thesis titled “Observation, characterization and modeling of fracture initiation phenomena” at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) under mentorship of Professor Alexander Chudnovsky in civil engineering in 2009. He did his tenure teaching as Assistant and then Associated Professor at University of Sarajevo-Faculty of Civil Engineering and University of Zenica-Faculty of Polytechnics (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He has 2 decades of geotechnical consulting experience, on large infrastructure projects including nuclear.

Professor Mohammad Alhassan (Vice President for Student Affairs and Head of Civil Program)
earned his PhD in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2007. He joined Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in 2008 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2012. He then joined Jordan University of Science & Technology (JUST) in 2016 and was promoted to full professor in 2019. He worked as the civil engineering program director at AL Ain University (AAU) in UAE during 2019-2023. He has outstanding teaching experience in the structural and concrete areas. He published 90 research articles and received many prestigious awards including the 2014 IPFW best teacher of the year award/student choice.

Professor Leon Iofin (Head of Mechanical Program)
earned his PhD Thesis in mechanical engineering titled “Vibrations of Steam Turbo Aggregate” defended at St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, Physical-Mechanical Department, Chair of Mechanics and Control Processes under mentorship of Chair Member Professor Vladimir M. Fridman, 1975. A few years of teaching experience at Pavlodar Industrial University, Department of Civil Engineering in Pavlodar (Kazakhstan). Taught many courses in Mechanics of Continuous Media. Many years of stress, structure, and vibration analysis experience of large electro-mechanical equipment, as experience in development and design mission critical IT systems for different US government departments, and commercial companies.

Professor Emir Karamehmedovic (Head of Electrical Engineering Program)
earned his PhD from Technical University of Denmark in 2006. The title of his thesis was “Incoherent optical frequency domain reflectometry for distributed thermal sensing”. He did a post.doc. study at the Danish national research center RISO in the field of solid-state light sources. Later, Emir was Assistant professor and then Associate Professor at International University of Sarajevo in the period 2010-2019. Works in the photonics industry since 2019 and successfully develops instruments within biophotonics.

Assistant Professor Amar Halilovic (Head of Computer Engineering Program)
will defend his PhD Thesis, “Explainable Robotic Systems,” at the University of Ulm in Ulm, Germany in Spring 2025. He holds an MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina and an MSc in Computer Science from Mälardalen University (Sweden). He has published several papers on the explainability of robot path planning. He has recently won the shared first best paper award for his paper titled “Explainable is Responsible, or not?” at the workshop on Responsible Robotics at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2024) in Yokohama, Japan.

Professor John Dudley (Vice President for research)
earned a PhD in Experimental Physics from The University of Michigan, and over 4 decades of experience in upstream subsurface petroleum research. From 2010 to 2022 John served as Shell’s Global Subject Matter Expert for Experimental Rock Mechanics and Geomechanical Core Test Analysis and served as an external Advisor to several PhD students at the University of Illinois Chicago and the University of Houston. He has extensive expertise in experimental petrophysics, soil/rock/fracture mechanics, and petroleum geomechanics.

Professor Jacob Fraden, Ph.D.
In several universities, he taught courses on design and applications of sensors. He has 50 years of R&D experience in various companies. His popular inventions (home blood pressure monitor, motion controlled light switch, infrared thermometers and others) started billion–dollar industries. His handbook on sensors had 5 updated editions, was translated into several languages and over 30 years has been used as a textbook for the related courses in many universities worldwide. He published over 90 technical papers and holds 60 patents. He served in the U.S. and international Standard committees.

Professor Clive Bosnyak, Ph.D.
earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry at University of Birmingham, England in 1980. Thesis: Synthesis and Characterization of Some Novel Aromatic Polyester Carbonates. He was Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Polymer Science. Has over 4 decades of teaching and industry experience. He was teaching at University of Illinois at Chicago and Saginaw Valley State College, Michigan. Currently he is Co-owner and Chief Technology Officer of Molecular Rebar Design LLC., Co-owner of Microlayer Energy LLC, owner of Creative Polymers LLC, and co-owner of Designed Nanotubes LLC.

Professor Kalyan Sehanobish
retired from The Dow Chemical company (TDCC) in 2019 and started a consulting company MARS dedicated to assisting industrial consultants in plastics product development from designing polymer molecules, formulated products, and their final applications. Current clients include Fortune 50 corporations to mid-size Engineering Companies. He retired from TDCC as a corporate fellow responsible for directing research in engineering polymers and adhesives. His PhD was from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio in Polymer Science with PhD thesis under mentorship of Prof. Alexander Chudnovsky.

Professor Haiying Zhang
earned her Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from University of Wisconsin in 2007, with the dissertation titled “Role of Nanocrystalline Coatings on Fe-Cr-Ni Based Alloys”. With over 20 years of experience in research and consulting, Dr. Zhang specializes in materials characterization, physical and mechanical properties testing, fracture mechanics, failure analysis, and material modeling and simulation. She has also taught numerous courses at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Assistant Professor Emina Balic
defended her PhD Thesis titled “Vibration based assessment of railway sleeper-ballast interaction” at University College Dublin (UCD) under mentorship of Professor Ciaran McNally in Civil Engineering in 2020. Emina has 12 years of civil engineering expertise, with an extensive record of solving complex engineering problems in both academia and industry. Emina is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland and is currently employed as Geotechnical Engineer at Jacobs, engineering consultant in Ireland.

Associate Professor Layla Amaireh
defended her PhD Thesis titled “Nonlinear Interface Formulation for Frictional Contact” at Purdue University in Structural Engineering/Computational Mechanics in 2014, and her Masters’ degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2005. She was promoted to an Associate Professor at The Applied Science University- Jordan in 2020. She is currently an Associate Professor at AL Ain university, UAE. Her research interests include contact formulations, soil-structure interaction, seismic design, finite element simulations, and sustainability.

Professor Elena Zaretsky
defended her PhD thesis titled “Auditory comprehension in children with specific language impairment: The role of verbal working memory” at the Department of Human Development in Boston University, under the mentorship of Dr. Jean Berko Gleason, in 2004. She worked for many years in University of Massachusetts, Amherst; University of Massachusetts Boston and Clark University, teaching courses in psychology, developmental disabilities and education. Currently she is teaching in the MA program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Regis College and conducts extensive research with her colleague at Beit Berle college, Israel.

Professor Leila Miller-Van Wieren
defended her PhD Thesis titled “Univalence criteria for analytic functions” at the University of Michigan under the direction of Professor Frederick Gehring in mathematics in 1994. She taught at several universities in the USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina including the University of Texas at Austin (postdoctoral lecturer) and Penn State University Berks Campus (assistant professor).Recently she works at the International University of Sarajevo where she is a tenured full professor. She does research in Real and Complex Analysis.

expert from practice, has 20+ years experiences in network system design and management, holding Cisco CCNA certificate from 2006., has decades of software and database development experiences, open-source software implementation and customization to higher educations, MS. at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering-Thesis Title: “Integral approach for data exchange between CAD systems and application based on Finite Volume Method”. He has a 20+ years of teaching experiences at International University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Zenica. He is currently employed as IT Director / Head of the University IT Cener at the International University of Sarajevo.
